Derek Smith, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon - Hand & Wrist

Derek B. Smith, MD attended the United States Naval Academy and served in the Navy for six years before transitioning to a career in medicine. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Columbia University and completed his orthopedic surgical residency at Oregon Health and Science University. It was during residency that he fell in love with the state and committed to return after one year of advanced fellowship training in hand surgery and micro-surgical techniques under Dr. Peter Stern in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dr. Smith is thrilled to return to Oregon and establish roots in our community. When not in the office or operating room, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and trying to keep up with his two young daughters.

He strives to keep his schedule on time, but can’t make any promises if you get him talking about Navy football, cycling, rowing, or animated films with strong female leads.

Please welcome him to our practice and stop by to see him for any of your hand or upper extremity needs.
