Michael Ryan, MD
A Texas native, Dr. Michael Ryan
received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and his MD from
the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed his
internship in surgery at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where he
also finished his residency in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Ryan completed his
fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at the Gillette Children's Hospital in St.
Paul, Minnesota.
Dr. Ryan specializes in children’s
orthopedics, including cerebral palsy and spina bifida, and adolescent and
adult sports medicine. He enjoys working with children and young people, particularly
the intellectual challenge of working in an unusual field with a wide variety
of conditions to keep current with. He has conducted research on the
developmental dislocation of the hip.
Dr. Ryan is an avid outdoor
adventurist who enjoys skiing and cycling, often in the company of his wife and
two children. A musician, he plays the guitar, often contributing his time to
play at charity events. He volunteers as the medical director for the Cascade
Cycling Classic and Hoodoo Ski Area, and as a consultant for Mt. Bachelor Ski
Patrol. He has been a U.S. Ski Team physician since he moved to Bend, in 1996.
