Cara Walther, MD
Originally from Central New York,
Dr. Cara Walther completed her undergraduate education at Middlebury College
and received her medical school training at Dartmouth Medical School. She completed
an internship in general surgery at the University of Rochester in New York,
where she also completed a residency in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Walther
finished her fellowship in sports medicine at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital
in Salt Lake City, Utah.
A former NCAA Division One skier,
Dr. Walther was motivated by her own knee injuries to enter the field of sports
medicine. Today she specializes in sports medicine and orthopedic surgery, including
cutting edge ligament and cartilage surgery, rotator cuff and shoulder
dislocation surgery, and cartilage and meniscus transplants in the knees.
Dr. Walther sees patient athletes
of all ages and has a special interest in women’s orthopedics. She is dedicated
to patient education and enjoys spending time with her patients so that they
feel comfortable and informed. As part of her commitment to the prevention of
injuries, she developed “KneeBound,” an ACL injury prevention program.
Dr. Walther has been a team
physician for the Women's U.S. Ski Team since 1998, a board member for the
Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation since 1999, was a Venue Physician
for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake, and is a team physician for the Rush
WPSL soccer team. In addition, she's been a team physician for both the Cascade
Cycling Classic and the Pole Pedal Paddle since 1999.
Dr. Walther enjoys skiing, windsurfing,
cycling, mountain biking, paddling and spending time with her two young
daughters.
